Talk about bicycling-to-better-health! Have you ever looked around city neighborhoods and noticed the saturation of corner stores and mini-marts. Fresh fruits and vegetables are nearly non-existent in these establishments, but Nurse Theresa Bowick, Cruise Captain of the Conkey Cruisers is teaching participants how to purchase healthy food items on a budget.
Yesterday, the cruisers took the Feed-a-Family-on-$5 Challenge. Now, I know what you’re thinking … feed a family on $5 sounds impossible, right? But how many of you know how to make a dollar out of .15c?
Nurse Bowick used the MyPlate guide to help youth plan their meals and asked each rider to prepare a shopping list before they took off. They rode their bikes to a local grocer and purchased their meals with all of $5.00. Now, that is what you call a health voyage in action.
